Summer Packets 2024 for Yeshiva Ketana Boys

June, 2024

Dear Parents,

Summer packets are coming home this week for all boys entering grades 1-7 and will also be available on the school website. The goal of this packet is to keep strengthening and reinforcing the skills our children have learned over the course of the school year. Reading especially should be encouraged as educational research shows (from study.com):

● Summer reading is critical to a child's ability to not only retain information learned the previous year, but also to grow in knowledge and critical thinking skills for the coming year.
● Just like exercising keeps muscles in shape, reading keeps the brain in shape. If you do not exercise, you lose muscle, and if you don't read, you will lose literacy skills.
● Children who don't read over the summer lose at least two months of reading development. This is often referred to as “the summer slide.” On the other hand, students who do read over the summer may gain a month of proficiency in reading. Reading over the summer is not a suggestion to keep kids busy; it's a critical requirement to help students stay on track for their entire educational career and beyond.

The Summer Packet is all inclusive with math and reading work in each packet.

In order to support the importance of “exercising our brains over the summer,” the incentives for completing summer packets have been dramatically upgraded. All students who completed packets went on a special trip to Sky Zone celebrating their accomplishments and we hope to do this for the coming year as well. The Junior High students will have an enhanced celebratory trip.
